I wanted to document my problem solving approach; thus I made this post.

This post outlines my systematic approach to tackling complex challenges, demonstrating how I navigate ambiguity, make thoughtful technical decisions, and create meaningful impact through collaborative problem-solving.

My Core Problem-Solving Framework​

Over my career, I've developed a systematic approach that I apply across all projects, from building ML pipelines processing 1.5B+ images to establishing organization-wide success frameworks. Here's how I work:

1. Information Gathering & Context Building​

When facing ambiguous situations, I start by systematically gathering information and building context. This isn't just about collecting dataβ€”it's about understanding the problem space, stakeholders, and constraints.

Example: When launching the Self-Service Driver Support (SDS) system, I didn't just build a technical solution. I first mapped out the entire driver support ecosystem, identified 12+ engineering teams that needed coordination, and understood the weblab guidance requirements across different organizations. 2. Structured Decision-Making with Tradeoff Analysis​

I approach technical decisions through systematic tradeoff analysis, always considering multiple dimensions: performance, maintainability, scalability, and business impact.

Example: For the ML Pipeline Optimization project, I had to choose between GPU-intensive solutions and distributed processing. I evaluated:

  • Performance: 536% throughput increase vs. infrastructure complexity
  • Cost: GPU costs vs. distributed system maintenance
  • Scalability: Future growth requirements vs. current constraints
  • Risk: Technical debt vs. immediate delivery pressure

  • Metrics collection and analysis frameworks
  • MacAds integration for context-aware advertising
  • Team training and adoption mechanisms

4. Stakeholder Alignment Through Shared Vision​

Technical solutions only succeed when stakeholders are aligned. I focus heavily on creating shared understanding and buy-in across diverse teams.

Example: For the Organization-Wide Success Framework, I didn't just research metricsβ€”I created an L8+ focused document that clearly articulated the value proposition and got skip-level buy-in for organization-wide adoption.   • What do we know? What don't we know?
  • Who has relevant information or experience?
  • What assumptions are we making?

Step 3: Option Generation​

  • What are all possible approaches?
  • What are the tradeoffs for each option?
  • What are the risks and mitigation strategies?

Step 4: Decision Making​

  • Which option best balances all factors?
  • How will we measure success?
  • What's our fallback plan?

Step 5: Implementation & Learning​

  • How will we execute the chosen approach?
  • How will we know if it's working?
  • What will we learn for next time?

Creating Impact Through Collaboration​

My approach to impact creation centers on enabling others to succeed. I focus on building systems, processes, and capabilities that multiply effectiveness across teams.

Key Principles:
